Family Leisure 42. Describe what you do during your leisure time. During our leisure time we unite, and together we go to some famous Iraqi mosques, inside and outside of Baghdad. We also go for walks in cultural sites, like Babylon. The women like to go shopping and get together with their friends. Alia likes to sew. 43. What does your family do for fun? Hours/week? We all watch TV at night. Arabic pop music at 5 p.m., news at 9 p.m. and then a movie. Most of us exercise in the morning for 15 minutes. Ahmad plays football. Falah plays music with friends and pumps weights. 44. Does your family take vacations? When and where? We visit our family home outside Baghdad. But we also stay at home. 45. What other places have you visited within your country? We visited Basra in the south of Iraq, but we also often go to visit some family in the west, near the Jordanian border. 46. Where have you visited outside the country? We only went to Jordan. Alia wishes to visit Paris some time, but never wants to visit the United States. Communications 47. What types of media are you exposed to? How do you get local and world news? Does it matter to you? We don't read any newspapers and rarely magazines. Mostly the only media we are exposed to is on TV. 48. How many of the following do you own? One TV, 1 VCR , but no stereo, just a tape player. 49. What do you watch on TV, and for how many hours/day? We watch a lot of TV. The 2 Iraqi channels play a lot of Arabic pop music, some Iraqi and foreign movies, and talk shows. The girls prefer the foreign video clips at 4:00 p.m. and 1 hour of MTV.
